‘I Hear a Rhapsody’ – Jazz piano tutorial
'I Hear a Rhapsody'. Watch in high quality mode to more easily read the notation. au.youtube.com One of the favourite songs of jazz pianists - many versions around to study. There is an analysis of this tune with improvisational ideas in Mark Levine's 'Jazz Theory Book' (Sher Music). First Chorus is played here as solo piano - very freely - though I have adjusted the notation to correspond to the original 32 bar form. After this, the bass and drums are added in tempo. I tried to get that collective improvisation idea going with bass and drums not just 'blazing away', but rather trying to respond to each other - not easy to do when you are playing all the parts. I played the parts in separately several times, replacing earlier versions of bass or drums in turn, so that some semblance of collective improvisation by all instruments was (hopefully!) achieved. Bossa Nova Jazz Samba Groove – Advanced Piano Lesson
www.fastpianolessons.com dminor9 = D, F, A, C, E cmajor9 = C, E, G, B, D This is an advanced piano lesson, you should attempt this pattern after you've been playing piano for at least a year or more! If you sped this up enough, it could be a samba groove I think. But this bossa nova groove covers the left hand bass line two chords in the rh Dm9 & Cma9 Slower examples Latin Music rhythms are difficult, don't be discouraged, just practice a little bit each day. Hands separately.
