how much do music teachers with a BA in music get paid when teaching at a school. Also how much do music teachers with a Masters degree make when teaching at a school. Is the difference alot? would it be easier to just teach at a music shop or is teaching at a reall school way better pay? My instrument is Guitar.
Each school district in each state has their own pay scale. The best way to see what teachers are getting paid is to check out the teacher pay scale for the district you are interested in. For example in NY State you could go the BOCES web site and look up different pay scales for each district. In Florida where I teach, first year teachers get $37K with a BS and a little more with a Master’s degree. In Georgia near Atlanta I hear that teachers are getting over $40 for their first year and over $5K extra for a master’s. Pay is different for every district. Music teachers can also get some extra pay for extra curricular activities – chorus after school or jazz groups or different bands that compete or travel. Many school have community education programs after school so the community/adults can attend classes or take lessons in the afternoon or at night. Music teachers get paid extra to teach piano. guitar, or create an adult ensemble, or even teach music theory!
At the top of the pay scale teachers get over $100,000 per year up north while the top in the south has not reached the 80’s yet. The top salary on the pay scale in my county is $70K with a doctorate. (This does not include bonuses, extra pay, etc)
For piano teachers: Is a Grand Piano really necissary to own if I want to major in music?
